Knight's Automotive Featured Publications
We hear this all the time from our customers: “I am so glad my car is finally out of warranty so I can bring it back to you guys!” This statement always troubles us because the truth is; these customers could have been taking their new vehicle to Knight’s Automotive all along while still preserving their new vehicle warranty and avoiding the high-priced dealerships. Yes, you heard it correctly: YOUR NEW VEHICLE DOES NOT NEED TO BE SERVICED EXCLUSIVELY BY THE DEALERSHIP DURING ITS WARRANTY PERIOD TO PRESERVE YOUR NEW CAR WARRANTY.
Since 1975, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act has put into place protections safeguarding consumers, their vehicles and their warranties. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), our nation’s consumer protection agency, it is in fact illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage simply because you had routine maintenance or repairs performed by someone else. As long as the fluids and parts used in your scheduled vehicle maintenance meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications and the services are performed at the specified intervals, your warranty is safe. (See the link below of Electronic Code of Federal Regulations Part 700-Interpretations of Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act 700.10 Prohibited Tying for more detailed information).
Here at Knight’s Automotive Repair, we use the right fluids and the right parts at the right times, giving you peace of mind that you are meeting the required terms of your warranty contract. We also keep extensive computerized records that will allow you to show that your car has been serviced properly to meet the terms of your warranty contract. And if you need to be reminded to schedule your vehicle for the required maintenance services, we have you covered by sending out service due reminders at the proper time. We will even call you if you get so busy that you forget.
Give us a call at the shop (973) 241-1167 with any questions about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act or any other car related question. We hope to see you and your new vehicle in the shop soon. Safe Travels.
